Jessi Grieser is Assistant Professor of Linguistics in the Department of English at the University of Tennessee. Her research focuses on the use of African American English style in the creation and maintenance of identities which are not necessarily ethnoracial in nature, particularly identities of place and class. Her monograph project underway looks at the use of AAE among residents of a historically African American neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Her other research interests include language diffusion on the world wide web, especially discourse in fan communities.
